Armagnac is a protected designation of origin (PDO) for a traditional French brandy produced exclusively in the Gascony region in the southwest of France. A decree from 1909 legally defines the production area, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of vineyards in the Gers, Landes, and Lot-et-Garonne départements.

Unlike Cognac, Armagnac is distilled in a single continuous distillation process, not in the more complex double distillation method. This unique approach gives Armagnac its signature rich, full-bodied aroma and complexity. After distillation, the spirit is aged in high-quality French oak barrels for anywhere from three to twenty years, depending on the desired classification. With longer maturation, the spirit develops deeper flavor layers, complexity, and smooth balance. The legal minimum alcohol content for Armagnac is 40% ABV.
